Would you mind introducing yourself? My name is Olga. I am based in Kyiv, Ukraine. I have been hooked on travelling since I started working for a modelling agency. I lived in Tokyo, Singapore, Milan, Paris, & Tel Aviv. Though I changed my career, I still travel extensively.

How would you describe your style of photography? I’m trying to refine a minimalist style as I go. The more photos I take the more elements I try to eliminate from the composition. Anything that doesn’t serve a purpose must go.
When did you first fall in love with taking photos? My first trip to Morocco was a rollercoaster of locations. Marrakesh, Atlas mountains, Western Sahara, Chafchaeuen, Atlantic coast beaches. I felt an urge to grab a camera and film but I didn’t have my own yet. I was snatching my sister’s camera every 10 minutes annoying her so much that after the trip we went and got me my first camera.
Do you have a favourite photography related memory, whether it be in front or behind the camera? I was modelling for a brand in Japan. We had a shooting outside of Tokyo, on the rocky beach. It was early March, still cold for anyone to hang out by the ocean. It was only us and a group of local kids playing not far from us. When we started to shoot the kids got very excited and started copying modelling poses. It was so hilarious that we stopped the shooting to take some pictures of the kids. We photographed a lot of sincere smiles that day.
What inspires your photography? I get easily inspired by my surroundings. Literally anything could be a trigger to generate an idea. A movement out of the corner of my eye, a glance, a word, a smell, a random memory.
What kind of camera do you use? I use both digital and film. At the moment I have Canon 7D and Mamiya 1000 DTL, which I bought recently in New York at a flee market.
What’s your editing process like? I love the editing process just as much as taking photos. I can get stuck in Lightroom and Photoshop doing colour correction. Because I use Instagram as my portfolio, I make sure that the photo looks the same on both screens of my computer and phone. If not, I make colour adjustments in Lightroom, or directly on my phone using a bunch of apps like Photoshop for iPhone, InShot (for framing and cropping), Snapseed (simple colour adjustments).
Are there any tips you would like to give to anyone out there who would love to create similar style photos to yours? I usually shoot in soft light (early mornings, cloudy weather). If I need to shoot an interior, I make sure it’s on a sunny day and the room gets enough natural light. I don’t particularly enjoy planning a shooting with artificial light in a studio. But it is definitely a good skill if you’re familiar with the light schemes. And the more often you take your camera with you and shoot whatever you see, the sooner you’ll understand which style of photography you like the most. Only then you will start honing your technique.
Who are some of your favourite photographers? There are so many outstanding photographers, both established and unknown. But I always look up to people close to me. For example, my sister. She is a DOP and a very gifted photographer. She is the one who always gives me advise on editing and composition. She’s probably the only one who’s opinion I trust completely.
Are there any photographers/models here on Instagram that you wish more people knew about? Oh definitely! The number of them grows exponentially. Here’s a few people I think deserve exposure: @veinebleue has a lot of heartwarming pictures, @archi.grafia focuses on brutalist and post-soviet architecture, @ionut_burloiu and @gabescalise both have a great eye for nature and landscape photography, @alina_rudya inspires with her colourful street photography.
What would be your number one dream destination for a photography adventure? Cape Town. I want to go there to explore night photography.
Which time of year is your favourite for taking photographs? I think it would be truly boring to shoot in one particular season. But to tell you the truth, I still don’t have any pictures of the golden autumn. I need to fix that!:)
The coolest place you've ever been? Mount Kilimanjaro, Tanzania. It was my first serious summit. Tropical rainforest covered in white frost in the morning, experiencing altitude sickness on mars-like moorland, and finally witnessing those surreal ancient glaciers that might soon disappear forever from the face of the Earth - is an unforgettable memory which I will carry with me through my whole life.
Anything extra you would like to share? Recently @Featureshoot started a new project - a print store called @Superfineprints, dedicated to emerging talents in photography. It’s the first time a major photography website noticed my work and displayed it in their collection. I’m very excited about it. https://superfineprints.com/collections/landscape-photography-art-prints-for-sale/products/olgagordienko1
