Would you mind introducing yourself? Hi, my name is Tali and it is a short form of Natalia. I was born and raised in Moscow, but when I was 16 I moved to the UK. Right now I live in London. I love travelling and living in different places, so London may be my residence for not such a long time :)

How would you describe your style of photography? My style of photography is mixing everything together. Well, in a way I'm kind of joking, but I do like to take some interesting bits from various styles. I really like analogue photos, and even though I shoot on digital, I tend to mimic analogue photos a lot. I like analogue editorials, but I also tend to incorporate more psychological factors into my work, even though it needs polishing.
When did you first fall in love with taking photos? When I was around 8-10, my parents gifted me a camera. I am not entirely sure why they picked a camera as a present, but it gave me the photo fever. A few of my best friends got their first cameras at the same time and we would compete and try to take nicer photos than each other. I lived in the countryside and our parents let us wander alone. We had a forest, river and fields and it was much more fun to explore them with our cameras. Then slowly I started to realize that photography is like painting, what I did with light, and it really encouraged me to shoot more and to actually think about what I was doing. After all, I have always wanted to become an artist but never succeeded at drawing.
Do you have a favourite photography related memory, whether it be in front or behind the camera? One of the happiest memories that I have related to photography is my trip to Eastbourne. It was the first trip of mine that I did completely alone. I was always hesitant to go to a new place without anyone, because I was afraid of being lonely. However, I started to realize that always being around people slowed my progress, because I tried to distract myself from the feelings that I had when in their company. Yet, it was vital for me to learn to accept how I feel and be able to dive into these emotions alone and create something with them. This was very freeing for me and I remember standing on one of the Seven Sisters’ Cliffs and thinking how happy I was to be present in this moment.
Who/What inspires your photography? My style constantly changes so it really depends on my mood. I have various emotional periods during which I am attracted to different things. Right now I am inspired by some creepy and old photos that involve nature and animals or birds to some extent.
Camera & Editing Process? I shoot on a Nikon D810 and I edit the photos either on my iPhone or iPad. I usually edit photos in VSCO and Lightroom and I've created some personalized filters and presets. When I edit I usually listen to a specific music genre that reflects my and/or the shoot’s emotions and atmosphere. It can be anything from very dirty and dumb rap to sad alternative. If I find one song that represents the state of my mind or the feelings that the photos should project into the world, very accurately, I can listen to it non-stop for as long as I am editing. It can take up to 6-8 hours straight.
Are there any tips you would like to give to anyone out there who would love to create similar style photos to yours? The best advice I can give is to read about colour and its science, watch and analyze movies and what role the colours play in them. I mainly focus around creating an atmosphere with the light and colours that I can find, sometimes changing the hue or the tone a bit. So before you start doing this, you need to really make sure that you understand how it works.
Who are some of your favourite photographers? I am in love with the work of Laura Makabresku. Her work is creepy, gloomy and it has the hint of the 19th century. It is truly amazing and it’s very unique, what makes it even more amazing. Her Instagram name is @lauramakabresku. Another photographer that I really like is Polina Naboka. Her portraits are dreamy and light and I enjoy her tendency to shoot minimalistic photos. Her Instagram name is @polinaboka.
What would be your number one dream destination for a photography adventure? For me, there is no such thing as the perfect destination. It would be planet Earth. Different regions, countries, climate zones, all of them have their own atmosphere and aesthetic. Sticking with simply one of them is very limiting and sad, because a good photographer should be able to adjust and work in completely different environments. Coming from a cold country I am longing towards winter, mountains and frozen lakes and rivers, yet having a specific theme all the time is boring. It stops the creative growth of a person.
Which time of year is your favourite for taking photographs? If we are talking about outdoor photography, I don’t really have a preference, but if we are talking about street and portraits, I prefer summer and spring, because I enjoy taking photos of people outside, and its always nice when there is a lot of light and everything is blooming.
The coolest place you've ever been? I love all the countries but so far I have a soft spot for Italy, Croatia and Israel. Italy and Croatia have an amazing nature and are very good for street photography, while as Israel has an absolutely magic atmosphere.
Do you have any upcoming photography trips/sessions that you would like to share? I am going to the Lofoten Islands on a photo trip and I am very excited, because I like Scandinavian Mythology and I have never been to Norway before.
Anything extra you would like to share? In the time of globalization and increased use of social media it is very important to get inspiration yet keep your own personal traits. Many beginning photographers face challenges with keeping their work theirs in a way, that what they do no longer mirrors their personality and feelings. Even though the presence of a photographer in the photo doesn’t need to be on a particular level, it is always more pleasing to see personal and intimate work.
