Martin Gundersson

Martin Gundersson

Would you mind introducing yourself? My name is Martin Gundersson, I’m a 25-year-old photographer from Sweden. I'm from a tiny tiny village called Handöl but I grew up in Sollefteå. Now after moving around for awhile I currently live in Östersund and I really like it here.

When did you first fall in love with taking photos? My photography journey started in my last school year, when I took a course in photography and discovered analog photography and how fascinating and fun it was to shoot and develop black & white film.

Do you have a favourite photography related memory, whether it be in front or behind the camera? One of the best memories I have is when I went to study at a photography school and met so many like minded people, that was awesome.

What inspires you to take these wonderful photographs? What inspires me the most is the places I go to I just find nature and landscapes around me so beautiful and fascinating. And of course there is a ton of inspiration on Instagram.

What kind of camera do you use? I mostly shoot with my Fujifilm X-pro2 camera with the 23mm f2 lens on it but I also sometimes use my old polaroid land camera 250 and my Pentax mx when I shoot film.

What is your editing process like? I edit all my photos in Lightroom and i usually start adding a preset from VSCO or RNI films as a start. Then i keep on editing until I'm satisfied with the photo and for phone shots I use the VSCO app and apps from RNI like RNI films and RNI flashback.

Are there any tips you would like to give to anyone out there who would love to create similar style photos to yours? My tips on the shooting side is to just get out and have fun. And on the editing side my tip is to spend a lot of time practising Lightroom, and if you are like me and find it hard to start from scratch editing a photo then start with a preset. You can find a ton of different ones on the internet or you can create your own in Lightroom. Then just go play around from there to find and create your own style.

What are some of your passions/hobbies other than photography? I really like hiking and other types of adventures with friends and family. I also have quite a big passion for hamburgers.

Do you have any photography related plans for this summer that you would like to share? My plans for the summer are to revisit the Swedish west coast and to do a lot of hikes around Jämtlandsfjällen later in the fall.

Who are some of your favourite photographers? There are so many inspiring photographers on Instagram, but some of my favourites at the moment are Benjamin Hardman, Andrew Kearns and Jordan Passey.

Stay tuned in the coming months for our upcoming interview with Jordan Passey!

Which time of year is your favourite for taking photographs? I really like the difference between all the seasons but if I have to choose one I would say autumn is my favourite.

What would be your number one dream destination for a photography adventure? The Faroe Islands have always been a dream of mine and I would, of course, love to go to Iceland like everyone else haha!
