Would you mind introducing yourself? Hello, I am Julia Davlatyorova, 21 years old. I’m Ukrainian, but I have some Tajik roots, which I got from my father. I was studying management in Warsaw for 3 years and then came back to Kiev, where I was from. Now I work in marketing and make photos from time to time.

How would you describe your style of photography? I think the country in which I was born and grown up influenced my photography and way of thinking a lot. I am very attentive to unusual, absurd and disturbing stuff around, but at the same time, I see a lot of beauty in it. And even if I take photos of flowers, I try to make it not too cheesy.
When did you first fall in love with taking photos? I always felt something special in capturing what I saw, since I got a Sony-Ericsson phone with a camera when I was 11. I never got own camera but always used different opportunities to borrow gadgets from relatives. Those were always digital cameras. But my real obsession with photography began when I got my first film camera. I was 18 and since then never stopped taking photos on film.
Do you have a favourite photography related memory, whether it be in front or behind the camera? I still remember when I had just started shooting film and made my first captures of the neighbourhood in Warsaw where I lived. It was pure magic to photograph and to see what came out of this. I still love those photos very much.
What inspires your photography? I get inspired from any of my surroundings. Especially in Kiev. You know, a lot of people try to escape from the reality in Ukraine, but I get inspired from this stupidity, hopelessness, ruined and unfinished buildings. Maybe I've gone mad, but living in Kiev is interesting because there’s always a lot to photograph :)
What kind of camera(s) do you use? Currently, I use an Olympus miiu film camera, and a Nikon D3100 digital camera.
