Would you mind introducing yourself? Hi, my name is Hien Nguyen and I work as a full-time cinema manager in Melbourne, Australia. I take photos whenever I have some free time and when I am lucky enough to travel. Most of my photos on Instagram have been from a recent trip to the USA and New Zealand. I am not a paid photographer, I just really enjoy the process of shooting, editing and sharing photos.

How would you describe your style of photography? I am not exactly sure as I think I am still finding my style. My Instagram would suggest something like simple and clean compositions focusing on nature and landscapes. I would love to take more photos of people.

When did you first fall in love with taking photos? I first fell in love with taking photos whilst driving around the South Island of New Zealand for the first time in 2014 with my partner. Ever since then, I have been drawn to photographing natural landscapes and lighting.

Do you have a favourite photography related memory, whether it be in front or behind the camera? I recently went to Yosemite National Park and got to see Half Dome from Glacier Point for the first time. We got there just before sunset and stayed there until dark and there were not too many people around. It was one of the best afternoons I have ever had.

What's your editing process like? I typically use Lightroom to edit digital. I like to crush my highlights and bring back my shadows and blacks. Lately, I have been adding a little bit more saturation to my photos to give it more colour. For mobile editing I use VSCO and for Instagram Stories I use Unfold. I use VSCO to add the white borders for Instagram.

Are there any tips you would like to give to anyone out there who would love to create similar style photos to yours? Keep the images simple and consistent. Focus on one subject. Research your location, shoot in good light and be patient.

Who are some of your favourite photographers? Most of my favourite photographers have come from exploring Instagram. I am often inspired by the works of Jared Chambers, Phil Chester, Zach Leon, Justin Chung and Christopher Hainey. Working in the cinema industry, I also draw inspiration from movies. Call Me by Your Name is a recent film that inspires my photography and desire to travel to Italy.

Which time of year is your favourite for taking photographs? Generally summer because the days are longer, the sun shines brighter and everyone is just more relaxed. Winter in New Zealand; nothing beats driving in snow filled roads surrounded by mountains.

The coolest place you've ever been? New Zealand is a pretty cool place. You can easily drive the entire country and everywhere you go you are surrounded by mountains and lakes. If you are lucky enough to go to Milford Sound in winter when the sun is shining and mountains are snowing, you will witness one of the best views in the world (biased opinion). The people there are really nice as well.

What would be your number one dream destination for a photography adventure? There are so many but I would love to spend some time in Italy, particularly in northern Italy. I think the country has the perfect combination of culture, cities and landscapes.
