Would you mind introducing yourself? Hello, my name is Davide Rostirolla (@gon_48) and I'm a self-taught photographer, illustrator and graphic designer from Italy (Latina).
How would you describe your style of photography? I like outdoor photography and I love to travel with my wife and my camera around the world (Ireland, Western USA, Australia, Iceland). Since 2015 I started to shoot into the water alternating film and digital cameras. I then developed two parallel projects “Film is not dead” where my favourite tool is an old Nikonos V camera and “Into the water” (with a digital camera). The two projects are extremely different but, at the same time, strongly connected by three topics that really matter for me: Sea, Surf and environment. My other two passions besides photography are sketches and illustrations.
When did you first fall in love with taking photos? I discovered my passion for photography back in 2006-2007 when I was working as a 3D artist in a VFX and post-production studio where most of my colleagues had a reflex. Their works inspired me and I decided to step into this world too. I found through photography the way to express myself and to show the world through my eyes.
Do you have a favourite photography related memory, whether it be in front or behind the camera? I remember that to photograph the DC-3 in Iceland I had to walk about 4km before arriving at the wreck; walking for 4km in the middle of nowhere, under the rain, wind and fog was truly a mystical experience. However, every trip and every place I visited is a source of inspiration for me in many different ways but only after exploring Iceland I realized that capture remote and desolate places bring out the best of me. The fog, the clouds and desolate lands have a great impact on my photographic style.
What inspires your photography? Nature, the sea, travel and seeing new places are a great source of inspiration for me.
What kind of camera do you use? I use a Canon 6D for the outdoor shots, Sony A6000 and Nikonos V for the water photography.
The coolest place you've ever been? It is always hard to pick just one, but if I have to pick one I would say Fjaòrárgljúfur, a place in Iceland.
What would be your number one dream destination for a photography adventure? There are many but if I have to choose one right now I would say Yukon, in the North-West of Canada.
Which time of year is your favourite for taking photographs? I think every time of the year can offer interesting things, but I like winter with iron skies, the mist...I really love the winter mood.
Do you have any upcoming photography trips/sessions that you would like to share? I am not planning any trip as of now but I have in mind a series of projects related to the environmental theme that I would like to start shortly...stay tuned!
Anything extra you would like to share? If you want to know more about me, you can find a daily post on my Instagram or you can see more of my work on my website! Thank you so much for the opportunity to present my work :)
