Would you mind introducing yourself? My name is Daan Annemans (@daannemans). I’m a 24-year-old philosophy student and photography is one of my biggest passions.
Where are you from, and where do you currently live? I’m from Brussels, Belgium. Currently I’m on Erasmus for a year in Seville, Spain.
Is there any specific way you would describe your style of photography? I would call it simplistic landscape and travel photography.
When did you first fall in love with taking photos? About six years ago, when I was studying digital design in Ghent. I had a photography course and had never done it before. I immediately enjoyed going out and capturing anything I came across. It took a while before I got more serious about it though. In 2014 I started posting pictures on Instagram, but not very regularly. Seeing the beautiful work of others made my love for photography even stronger.
Do you have a favourite photography related memory, whether it be in front or behind the camera? Yeah it’s definitely the first time I saw the milky-way galaxy up in the dolomites in northern Italy. To see it in real life was very impactful. It makes you think about how small we are compared to the immense universe out there.
What inspires you to take these wonderful photographs? Thanks for calling them wonderful! I guess seeing other people’s work inspired me to get out there myself more often. And like they say, inspiration is everywhere. When I’m traveling there are so many beautiful places I come across. I want to capture these moments and share them with other people.
What kind of camera do you use? A Canon EOS 6D.
What is your editing process like? What apps/programs do you use most often? I only use Lightroom to edit my photos. I don’t want them to be processed too much, but I usually make them as bright as possible and do a bit of colour correction with the HSL and camera calibration tabs.
Are there any tips you would like to give for anyone out there who would love to create similar style photos to yours? My compositions are most of the time very simplistic. What would also make it a similar style is the editing process I guess. Try going for soft and bright colours and don’t overdo the editing.
What are some of your passions/hobbies other than photography? Philosophy is definitely a passion in my life. I also really enjoy playing the guitar and jam with friends.
Do you have any photography related plans for this summer that you would like to share? The end of June I’m going back home to Belgium. I’m planning a road from Seville to Brussels with my girlfriend, who’s a photography enthusiast as well (@nathalocoart). We’re going to drive along the east coast of Spain, then through the Pyrenees, and head up to the Italian dolomites afterwards. Then we’ll cross Austria and the south of Germany. I’m really looking forward to this road trip!
Who are some of your favourite photographers? Dan Tom (@dantom) is definitely one of them. I also love the work of Andrew Ross (@andyyross), Myles Cameron (@mylesscameron), Patric Phillips (@patricwithno_k) and Chiara Zonca (@shadowontherun). They’re all amazing photographers.
Are there any photographers here on Instagram that you love and wish more people knew about? Yeah, definitely Marcus Jew (@whatwouldjewdo) and Chase Burnett (@chaseburnett_). Also, Garrett Burt (@garrett.burt) and Jordan Passey (@jordanrpassey). All of these guys definitely deserve some more attention on Instagram.

What would be your number one dream destination for a photography adventure? The first destination I think of is Iceland. Seeing all the amazing photographs people take there really makes me want to go as well. The vast landscapes look unreal.
Which time of year is your favourite for taking photographs? The summer! I love the long sunny days and warm nights.
Do you have any upcoming photography trips/sessions planned that you would like to share? Yeah during my stay here in Spain I really want to go to Doñana national park to shoot flamingos.
Anything extra you would like to share? I want to thank you for this interview and making it possible for me to share a bit of my background. Cheers!
