Would you mind introducing yourself? Hello! My name is Cameron and I am a travel and adventure photographer from Seattle, Washington. I have grown up in the Pacific Northwest my entire life and have gotten a lot of inspiration over the years from my home. I currently am an e-commerce photographer as my day job!

How would you describe your style of photography? My photography is inspired by telling visually compelling stories of people and places around the world. I am also very inspired by the power light has and how it affects and translates moods and feelings. I think this shows in my photos along with clean, simple compositions.
When did you first fall in love with taking photos? I started taking photos probably about 5 years ago. I remember my family had a tiny canon mirrorless with probably a whopping 4 or 5 mp that I started experimenting with long exposures with. I quickly got my own t2i and I haven’t stopped since.
Do you have a favourite photography related memory, whether it be in front or behind the camera? There was a time about 3 years ago when I was travelling the coast of Australia with one of my best friends and we camped next to a very remote, windy and exposed beach on the night of a full moon. At about midnight I told him I was gonna go photograph the beach under the moonlight and that I would return in 30 minutes or so. I ended up finding a massive and obscure piece of driftwood that I photographed for over an hour. The wind was howling and I dug my tripod about a foot into the sand to keep it steady for a 3-minute exposure. My friend thought I had died and I got probably one of my favourite images I’ve ever shot.
Who/What inspires you to take these wonderful photographs? I am inspired by the idea of sonder - where everyone in this world has an equally vivid and complex life as your own. I also feel that this applies to inanimate objects and places as well. To me, this makes the world much larger and inspires me to dive deeper into the people and places I encounter.
What kind of camera do you use? I use a Canon 5D III for assignments and paid work, but I recently have been shooting a lot of film for personal work. I just bought a Pentax 645 and I have been in love with shooting and scanning medium format.
What is your editing process like? I have created a few of my own presets over the years in Lightroom that give me my preferred amount of contrast and shadows/highlights. I may apply one of these and then dive into colour and local adjustments. I will use photoshop for any retouching or more serious image manipulation. My main goal while editing is just to get my image to translate the same feeling as when I took it.
Are there any tips you would like to give to anyone out there who would love to create similar style photos to yours? Shoot all the time!! I remember when I was starting out and I was always trying to emulate the style of other photographers, after enough of this my own style began to come through. Shooting as often as possible will allow your own unique style to emerge and you won’t want to emulate. If you wanted to shoot like me I would suggest paying attention to the small details in whatever you are photographing and see how you can use those details to tell a more complete story!
What are some of your passions/hobbies other than photography? I am deeply passionate about snowboarding and travelling. Last fall/winter I had the awesome opportunity to travel all over southeast Asia for 3 months and then snowboard in Japan for a month. Might have been the craziest four months of my life and I cannot wait to plan another trip like it in the near future. When I’m not travelling or snowboarding (which is a lot of time) I have been recently learning how to skateboard with my friends this summer which has been a fun to learn a new skill and push myself a bit.
Do you have any photography related plans for this summer that you would like to share? This summer I am working as a full-time e-commerce photographer which has been taking up a good portion of my time, so not much on the books for this summer besides doing some website updates and making some marketing materials. Come fall I hope to take a few trips and make it down to California to visit my friends, which is always a good time friendship wise and photographically.
Who are some of your favourite photographers? Dang, so many. Kyle Johnson is a huge inspiration, as well as Brian Flaherty, Ricky Rhodes, Kellen Mohr, and Grant Harder. Some others might be Luca Tombolini for his contemporary landscapes, Ben Thomas for his use of colour, Dino Kuznik, Reuben Wu, Christopher Hainey… I could go on forever but I think I will stop here.
Are there any photographers here on Instagram that you love and wish more people knew about? I would say all the photographers I listed above! As well as some of my talented friends. @mattiasevangelista is one of my homies who is killing it down in LA right now on the cinematography game. @dylan_hallett is another one of my close friends who has an amazing eye for shooting skiing and surf!
What would be your number one dream destination for a photography adventure? I want to go everywhere!! But I guess if I had to narrow it down it would either be somewhere like India or Patagonia. Or Brazil, or Peru..... I cannot decide. There are so many places on my travel list.
Which time of year is your favourite for taking photographs? I enjoy all seasons for shooting different things! Summer is amazing for the warm quality of light and plentiful golden hours! Fall is probably the best for landscapes, Winter for snowboarding and shooting in the snow, and Spring is an amazing time to shoot portraits and for reincorporating the sun into lighting situations.
Do you have any upcoming photography trips/sessions planned that you would like to share? Nothing big in the books yet. I have some work coming up with a non-profit that I am excited about, and I’ll mainly be spending my summer preparing my website for possibly moving down to LA this fall/winter.
Anything extra you would like to share? Thanks so much for having me!!!
